Failed one class in middle school?

What will happen if I failed one class I'm middle school? I failed pre-algebra and this year the principal said there's no promotional summer school for 7th graders. Only 6th and 8th. We took a math placement test a few weeks ago. Which I'm sure I probably failed. Would I have to retake pre-algebra for 8th?
